Meet Algorius Net Viewer 9.2
We are glad to announce the release of the Algorius Net Viewer 9.2.
In this version, the main attention is devoted to working with lines and connections between devices. In addition to that, you will enjoy the improved Web interface and the local reports, the possibility of notification via a Telegram group, and other improvements.
Working with lines
A Line is one of the main elements used on a network map. It's rare that a map does not contain this element, so interaction with lines must be especially convenient. The mechanism for creating and editing lines had remained unchanged for rather a long time. The time has come to modernize this mechanism.
Now there are additional opportunities for creating and editing lines, such as selection of multiple apexes, including for multiple lines at a time, or dragging and dropping individual edges. Apexes of lines can now be easily snapped to each other or to the grid when dragged and dropped. There are improvements in highlighting of apexes when hovered over, in adding apexes, and in dividing a line into two parts. An opportunity for aligning lines or their apexes has been added.
Altogether, adding lines and interacting with them has become much more convenient and pleasant.
Connections between devices
In Algorius Net Viewer, devices can be connected to one another similar to their physical connection. In the previous versions, such a connection was performed only with the aid of lines. This method allows for representing a real cable connection on the Network map. In this version, another method for connection of devices has been added — without lines: for example, to describe a wireless connection, or in order not to overload the map with lines.
If you select a device other devices are connected to on the map, the connected devices will be highlighted with a special frame:
In the previous versions, a connection between devices could be set up only in the line editor. Now the list of connections is also available in the device editor. You can specify its type, the length of the cable/channel, the ports that the connection is established through, and other information, in the connection settings. An arbitrary type of connection can be specifies, e.g., Twisted Pair, or Fiber Optic Cable, etc. The opportunity of specifying the type for multiple lines at the same time is also available via the context menu of lines on the map.
Two new reports have been added for analysis of the connection. The first one, 'Connections', displays the list of all connections and the information about them, and the second one, 'Connection Types', shows the total number and the length of the connections of each type, e.g., how many twisted pair connections there are on the map, and what their total length is.
Connection with the use of lines is made in the same way as in the previous versions.
In order to connect devices to each other without lines, for example, several computers with a Wi-Fi router, you have to select the router and left-click on the required computers while holding down the Alt key.
As in the previous version, if a line enters a port and an address is set for the port, this port is displayed on the map, next to the device, right above the line which enters the port:
When hovering over the line which connects the devices, the connected devices, ports, connection type, channel length and speed are displayed in the hint. The channel speed is determined automatically based on the ports speed. The opportunity of specifying the maximum port speed - is new feature of this version too.
Notification via Telegram
Notification via Telegram has been improved. Now instead of specifying the message recipient's phone number you have to select the recipient from the contact list. In addition to that, the option of notifying in a Telegram group has been added.
Optimization
Centralized monitoring has been optimized significantly in this version. The optimization was implemented mostly due to the change in the data transfer format. This made it possible to decrease the traffic more than two times. Parsing of data packets has also been accelerated. This all decreases the load on the server and clients, which is especially noticeable when there are thousands of devices on the maps, and the monitoring server has dozens of clients. The server supports clients both with old and new versions, but a new client requires an updated server. Therefore it is recommended to update the application first on the monitoring server, and then on the clients’ computers.
In addition to monitoring, map rendering has been slightly accelerated in this version, and notification in case of a great number of events has been optimized. This all decreases the CPU load a little when there is a great number of devices.
